Interview about new dental unit DA370 (Stomateam magazine)

When you were developing the concept of your new DA370, what were your goals?

Our goal was to unite a progressive design, surpassing ergonomics and innovative construction, all in one. Ergonomics is critical to everyday dental practice and we wanted to help doctors increase their productivity while reducing fatigue and discomfort. We had a great opportunity to collaborate with outstanding professionals such as Jerome Rotgans, (ESDE President), our consultant, who was keeping us updated with the most recent results in ergonomics researches and their practical application, and a famous designer, prof. Mgr. Art, Jaroslav Tomaščík, who was the project-leader and conducted our constructor's team.

Our goal was to create a dental unit being able to reduce to the lowest level or to eliminate completely the risk of work-related pain and unnecessary muscle tension so doctors can work in a healthy way, improve musculoskeletal health and as a result heighten their productivity and extend their careers. And, we suppose, Mr. Tomaščík and our team didn’t do bad at all.

It is also worth mentioning, that DA370 got a special recognition prize and was highly evaluated by the Slovak minister of Culture at the National Design Award this year. DA 370 premiere at IDS2011 exhibition in Germany was also a huge success, as we can conclude from numerous positive responses and evaluations we got from the public.

Does DA370 has something new to offer to the dentists?

DA370 offers a totally new approach to the day-to-day dental practice. Basically, there are 3 primary types of units in today's dental market: stationary, semi-stationary (spittoon block and chair are separate) and chair-mounted type. All these types have their advantages and disadvantages. For instance, chair-mounted units are very sensitive to vibrations coming from the chair, meaning, every time your patient repositions or making himself comfortable in the chair, one observe the decent shaking of the whole dental unit including the light beam. Don't you agree that such a situation is totally inacceptable, for example, during a serious operation?

Construction with the spittoon block-mounted chair is considered to be the best from all standpoints. So is DA370. Its stable and vibration-resistant innovative construction also improves ergonomics and functionality:  the dentist is provided with an extra legroom and the chair itself becomes more maneuverable, enabling easy horizontal and vertical positioning, automatic backrest adjustment and a huge number of possible working positions.

Demanding professionals will also like almost unlimited possibilities in extending their instrumentation to reach excellence in performance. Easy Dental X-rays, microscopes, innovative software integration...well, I am afraid, that the whole list of attractive new features is simply too long to fit in this interview.

Is such an innovative design also as good for the patient as it is for the dentist? Have you ever tried to find out, for example, about patients' reactions to the different colors used in the dental office?

As a visit to the dentist is viewed with at least some amount of anxiety by many people it is important to create a maximum relaxed atmosphere in the office.  DA370 chair with its anatomic shapes and smooth upholstery will make your patients feel relaxed and pampered. Support and motion are also critical to your patient's comfort. Smooth chair repositioning and complete elimination of the so-called "Undressing effect" together with 3D-articulating headrest, rotary armrests, and low seat height positioning to streamline entry-exit will give to your patients an exceptional feeling of comfort. All these features make DA370 stand apart from the majority of other dental chairs.

What's for colors, well, it is known, that quiet colors and natural hues like, for example, apple-green, light-blue and pale-pink create more laidback and relaxed atmosphere. Right color together with such attractive design elements as, for example, texture coating, will please the eye and make a right impression on your patients. Dentist should avoid using blaze and violent colors for the office and for the work equipment, as they are proven to disturb the attention and cause eye-fatigue. We offer a wide range of color options not only for upholstery, but for almost all components of the unit, so our Clients could create their own unique design that fulfills their wants.

What are your future plans? Are you planning to surprise us with any more innovations of DA370?

We are considering DA370 to be the top-product of the whole Diplomat product line. We were developing this line for more than 6 years now. During this six years the whole new family of dental units have been created (e.g., DC350, DL210) which was a perfect complement to already existing models at the time. Then appeared DL320 and DC170, and now we have our gem - Diplomat Adept DA370.

Monitoring and studying customer's feedback is an important aspect in our business. We always consider suggestions from our customers and trying to tailor our products to their needs.

We are continuously improving our existing equipment and adding new functions and features, making our dental units compatible with the more and more modern dental accessories and equipment. We have made it a priority to make our products to stand out.

What is for the short-range plans...well, we are almost ready to surprise our Clients with new DA380 with the rear hose-delivery system.
